Your Questions, My Answer

Q: What do I look for when buying a dehydrator?

A: This question has been popping up a lot in fb groups lately. I've been responding with a 5-point list as a guide.

1. Must have a fan that blows from the back

2. Must have a front swinging door

3. Stainless steel shelves show quality and longevity (plastic shelves can warp and break over time).

4. Temperature control that can be adjusted to 95 degrees. That is the ideal temp for crusting icing.

5. Need to be square/rectangular with shelves that pull out. Round dehydrators need to be rotated, which makes the icing crack and wavy.

Here goes:

Marketing Your Business

1. If you need to drum up business, make 2 dozen cookies with your business logo and phone number. Hand them out to solid potential prospects.

I recently went to a restaurant, and the waitress was terrific. I had a set of cookies I was gifting someone (heat-sealed). After lunch, I gave the waitress one as a thank you. She then spread it throughout the restaurant. Wow. I'm not looking for new customers. My plate is full now, but it was still a sweet moment!

2. Too many choices and people freeze up. Take your business brochure with photos on it and give a small stack out to businesses for their employees. I would even talk to the owner/president personally. Tell them you do retirement and birthday cookies. Give them samples. Telling them everything you do will overwhelm them.

3. Are you at the stage where you want to do cookie parties? I would suggest putting together a public one for kids aged 5-10 years old. BUT, make it FREE tickets! No child can stay without their parents, though (takes headaches away from you). News will spread like wildfire! This will help start word-of-mouth to get paid for real parties.

Ask a small business owner if they would sponsor it for a free space in their business. Then, you both can do free advertising for the party.

Tips and Hacks

1. How can you be more focused and productive at home?

-Create a schedule at night for the next day

-Stop multi-tasking

-Minimize distractions

-Make a routine. This forms a habit.

-Declutter your work area

-Prioritize tasks

-Set goals

-Take breaks

-Create to-do lists

2. I was recently gifted another claw cell phone mount that attaches to the side of the table with the bendable arm. I thought, 'That's nice, but I already have one.' I now use one for my phone and the other for my PICO projector when videoing. Before I had the stand kind for my PICO. I love that the table is now clear for just cookie items! See the mount here

3. I don't always include this. But if you need encouragement with your cookie business, please contact me. I would love to be able to inspire and cheer you on!
