WeCookiers Express, #0045 Time to bounce... February 25, 2025 |
Time to Bounce!March. One of the busiest months for cookies with so many things going on: basketball, spring, Mardi Gras, St. Patrick's day. Thankfully, Easter for this year will be next month! I decided to center this periodical around basketball, as I am already getting orders for this theme. Below you will find a couple of new designs that will turn an ordinary basketball theme into some real fun.
Today's Highlights1. your question, my answer2. form update 3. cookie cutter flips 4. March inspiration 5. latest WeCookier's page 6. business sense, marketing yourself 7. business tips
Your Questions, My AnswerQ: How do you remove royal icing transfers from the sheet?A: I have never seen anyone other cookier do this. It is the quickest and simplest way to release the piped transfers... No matter if you use parchment paper, acetate, or plastic sleeves for paper, they will pop right off without a problem if you place them in a food dehydrator on high for one hour. The wetness evaporates and you will barely, if at all, need to nudge them off the surface. Form UpdateIf you offered your opinions on my quick poll on WeCookier's, here are the results from the past 30 days. It's wonderful when you take the time for questions, as this helps me to help you in what you would like to see most. I truly appreciate it! Cookie Cutter FlipsAs you see in the poll results above, everyone loves flips!I took the arch cutter and made a couple of different 'flips', if you will. They were very easy to make! The basketball with backboard is a borrowed flip, still an excellent one! Here goes: arch cookie cutter = spinning basketball on finger arch cookie cutter = 3pt line/free throw lane skull cookie cutter = basketball with backboard Sorry, if you have an email with just HTML, you cannot see the photos. Take me to Cookie Cutter Flips galore! ...or you can tap on the photo March's Inspiration PhotoCarrying through with the basketball theme, these were a set for a high school bb player's birthday. Included are the flips. Another bb cookie you don't see often and is fairly new, is the bb court, like the football stadium cookies.Latest WeCookier's PageSo the newest PICO projector has been out since summer. I've always loved my old PICO. After 5 years it still works like a charm. But did you know the new PICO is Bluetooth? You can't beat that!I wrote a brand new page. It's not for the faint-hearted. I slaved over it. I made it completely unbiased. It's not just a review, but an exhaustive and comprehensive professional product review. Go take a look and see what you think. Perhaps the PICO + is not right for you. Perhaps it is.
Shop Gotta-havs!I have placed Shop Gotta-havs! on hold. I am reconstructing it to make it better for you. Thank you for your patience!Business Sense: marketing yourself1. One of my favorite ways that brings new customers in or prompts my already customers is new cookie cutters. No, not posting a picture of a cookie cutter shape, but a decorated cookie/cookie set. Especially set.I've had especially good luck selling cookies platters with new cutters. Many people, like me, are visual. They need to see the end product. When I do this (yes, I still do), I show something that is always 'in'. For instance, dogs and cats. Anything people love and pulls emotion from them. They'll nab on it! When you post your new set, ask for shares.
2. Get 'em hyped! Offer early access to a select group. Perhaps give special sale price the ones who have hired you in the last 3 months, or the customers who spent the most in a specific time frame. This approach makes them feel appreciated and special. It makes them want to share what they received. Others will want to be in your select group!
3. It's getting that time of year. Did you know that weddings bring in 70.5 billion dollars annually in the United States? And an average wedding costs $30,000? Be prepared to be a vendor at bridal shows. I did this for many years as a master engraver/calligrapher. It was a blast going. I truly loved it. Do it for your cookie business. Some of you also do wedding cakes/cupcakes. These shows are not usually free. By putting up the money though, you are assured to get paid back. It is a terrific way to spread your word. All the vendors that attend will speak on your behalf, as they generally support their 'group'.
Business Tips1. When you first art starting to decorate, funds can be tight. Yet, you need cutters. If I could offer one suggestion, I would say to secure a skull cookie cutter. This cutter alone scores so many cookies. Really, they offer a great many flips!2. As mentioned, we are heading into the wedding season. If you are wondering what you should be charging and how to package wedding cookies, it would be advantageous to swing over and read this page on WeCookiers. There's also a gift for you there! Wedding Sugar Cookies 3. Easter is coming in April. Start scoping out ideas and making notes now. Offering presales? Start getting your pictures and sales copies ready when you have spare time in March. That way you won't feel so frazzled when it gets here!
