Projector for Cookies: Which is right for you?

A projector for cookies is a must for professional-looking sugar cookies. The biggest question in the cookie world must be 'What is the best one?'. It's an important one, as projectors are not cheap.

I've always had the AAXA Pico projectors. For many years, I touted them and believed they were the best. Time changes things, especially when your favorite tool dies.

Yep, my original Pico was put to rest after 7 years!

I promised you I would decide on the AKASO or the KODAK LUMA and put it through the works for you. This page is the result of my 2-month testing period.

Deciding on which projector for cookies was a lengthy and tough decision. I read hundreds of reviews. I scoured comments all over social media and Amazon. My decision...the KODAK LUMA 150.

You can create magnificent sugar cookies with a projector for cookies.

About the KODAK LUMA 150 projector for cookies

The first thing I noticed after I charged it for 4 hours, as the manufacturer recommends, was that when I plugged it in... BOOM... it was ready. Seriously, plug'n'play! I was thankful as I am not a techie kind of girl.

It comes with everything you need:

  • adapters for other countries
  • standard HDMI cord with matching ends
  • carrying pouch

The Luma surpassed all of my expectations in sound. It was loud and clear. Though if you were watching a movie, you would probably need an external speaker.

The brightness was surprisingly good. The video above isn't the best to show it off. I assure you, though, it is bright enough to easily see the projection without turning your lights off in broad daylight.

During my overbooked graduation time (the entire month of May), it seemed to run constantly. The battery lasts me 2.5 hours each time.

I enjoy that it is a sleek and pretty piece. I went with the white and rose gold. Black and silver is another option.

Here is the KODAK Luma 150...

-From smartphones to big screens

-Comes w/ HDMI & Micro USB Cables for Hookup to Camera, Storage Drive, PC, Laptop

-60 Ansi lumen brightness LED Lamp

-Powers Via Rechargeable Battery Up to 2.5 Hrs.

About the AKASO projector

I do not have the AKASO. I was tempted to.

What I can tell you is I had numerous people contact me after my monthly periodicals and reading my projector pages. There was a common thread about the AKASO. It seems they each had a problem and contacted the manufacturer. They never heard back, they told me.

They did not say if it was the same problem with the machine.

The other thing is, I read several times that a new AKASO would suddenly shut off for no reason and would not turn back on.

That being said, no company is perfect. Some products just have individual flaws. There are just as many who love their AKASO as there are those who love their KODAKs.

It is always worth checking out the company and reviews yourself.

Table Mount:

An important thing to consider is that my regular gooseneck mounts do NOT work with the KODAK. The gripper thing is just a smidgeon too narrow. So,  I went back to using my table mount. Which suits me fine.

The KODAK LUMA is square instead of a rectangle. But the goosenecks work great for the AKASO.

Pros and Cons for the KODAK LUMA 150

Pros:

  • The display lighting is quite good, 60 lumens
  • small, pocket-size
  • projects with very clear details
  • rechargeable, 2.5-hour battery
  • mini digital video port, USB, SD, and tf ports
  • built-in speaker
  • can go up to 150" projection on a wall  or ceiling
  • wireless
  • mirroring

Cons:

  • The speaker is good for cookieing, but needs an external speaker for movies/gaming

Obviously, the pros far outweigh the cons.

Be creative and think outside the box! With a projector, you can even make royal icing transfers without using transfer sheets. Make sure to grab your 2-page download of Royal Icing Tips. This will ensure nothing goes wrong when using royal icing or glaze.

Show me how to use the KODAK LUMA 150

This is so simple. Once the projector is mounted, charged, and plugged in or mirrored to your phone, tablet, or laptop, just hold the on/off button down until the light turns green, about 2 seconds.

Go through and find the media device you are using with the arrows on the top of the LUMA. With my computer, I only had to do this the first time.

Once your delicious sugar cookie (the best cookie recipe) is iced with that mouth-watering royal icing (my superior royal icing recipe), or if you need to use the perfect glaze recipe, line it up under the projector.

I usually use a tipless icing bag. The hole size is about a #1S to #1 round/writing tip for thin letters and outlining really thick letters, with consistency being between 10 and 12 seconds.

Not sure what 10 and 12-second consistency means? Refer to the page Royal Icing Flooding for understanding how thick or thin your royal icing should be.

Here are examples of some of my cookies where I've used a projector coupled with the other game-changer, my airbrush system (very inexpensive, PLUS you get 3, not 1, and much more included).
